The Monaco Grand Prix has long been nicknamed “the jewel in Formula 1’s crown” but for all the sparkle, the racing has often been dull.

Formula 1 is set to implement "Monaco-specific regulations" in a bid to aid overtaking at the sport's most famous race, the governing FIA announced on Tuesday.

Yet, the racing has been anything but spectacular. In recent years overtaking has come at a premium, often turning the Grand Prix into more of a parade. Last year’s race was a prime example, as an accident on the opening lap brought out the red flag and saw the field make their mandatory tire change,
