Cam Newton refuses to give his former Patriots team their flowers despite being 9-2 on the season and having the NFL’s best record.
The NFC South-leading Buccaneers put up 32 on Sunday in Orchard Park, so it was up to Allen to deliver a victory — and the reigning NFL MVP did just that with a career day. Allen threw three touchdown passes and ran for three more as the Bills pulled away at the end for a 44-32 win. Buffalo improved to 7-3, staying one game behind New England.
With that said, they went on the road and beat two legitimate Super Bowl contenders in the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bills, Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns are the top-three passing defenses in the NFL, and Maye has performed well and beaten all three this season.
The former New England Patriots signal caller dismissed the idea that Maye is playing like a top five QB in the NFL when his “First Take” co-host Damien Woody said as much recently. And Newton, once again, refused to give Maye his flowers when Woody said he’s the best deep ball thrower in the NFL.

Bills QB Josh Allen's resilience on full display with historic performance against Buccaneers
In Buffalo's home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Allen had a topsy-turvy performance. The 2024 league MVP threw two interceptions and was penalized for an illegal forward pass early in the third quarter when he was well past the line of scrimmage.
Former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton needs to see more out of the Patriots to make him a believer, though. In fact, Newton went so far as to call the team's success this season "fool's gold" due to the schedule that they've played, which is among the league's easiest.
