Erik and Lyle Menendez were both denied parole eligibility for three years. The brothers, now in their 50s, have spent more than three decades in prison for their parents' murders.

A state panel said Erik Menendez should stay in prison for the 1989 killing of his parents and questioned the sincerity of his rehabilitation. His brother, Lyle, goes before the board on Friday.

The brothers had their hopes of a quick release dashed late last week. Their lawyers, and Gov. Gavin Newsom, could speed up the process — or they could even cut their wait time in half.
