Hurricane Erin downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone Friday evening, but some beaches will remain closed to swimming through Saturday as strong rip currents continue to create dangerous conditions.

Hurricane Erin has weakened to a Category 1 storm after lashing North Carolina's Outer Banks with rough waves and coastal flooding, and bringing a threat of dangerous waves and potentially deadly rip currents to the East Coast.

Eyewitness video filmed on Thursday (August 21) showed a road in Margate City, New Jersey submerged by floodwater brought about by Hurricane Erin, which was churning in the Atlantic hundreds of miles offshore.

The Jersey Shore felt impacts from Hurricane Erin on Aug. 21. With this now passing, another potential storm is on the way.

Hurricane Erin has triggered a state of emergency in North Carolina, where residents and visitors along the Outer Banks are under evacuation orders.

Ginger Zee showed her true grit while covering Hurricane Erin on Good Morning America. The meteorologist reported live from Manasquan, New Jersey, on the ABC morning show’s Thursday, August 21, episode. Just as Zee faced rain and high winds during her broadcast on the beach, so did her water bottle.
