CIA Director John Ratcliffe provided FBI Director Patel the intelligence that was the basis of the search warrant, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News.

The FBI conducted a court-authorized search at John Bolton’s home as part of a national security investigation into whether he disclosed classified information in his 2020 book, according to two people familiar with the matter.

But no one can say definitively whether today’s raid is due to Bolton’s status as critic, Bolton’s bad judgment or malfeasance, or nothing at all.

Sources familiar with the matter told ABC News that the search, carried out by the FBI, was related to allegations that Bolton is in possession of classified records.
