The 50th anniversary of the Grand of Long Beach has officially come and gone — leaving another record-setting turnout in its wake. Crews began work to dismantle the downtown Long Beach track on Monday, April 14, just one day after the golden anniversary of Southern California’s 200-mph beach party concluded with a bang on Sunday.

It was overcast and humid when the green flag dropped on the Long Beach Grand Prix on Sunday, not exactly ideal conditions for an afternoon drive along the beach. But by the time the sun came out, Kyle Kirkwood had made the race his own, steering his Honda to an easy victory in the 50 th running of the iconic IndyCar race.

One person was killed during a shooting near the Long Beach Grand Prix on Saturday. They were called to the 0 block of Cedar Walk, near The Pike Outlets shopping center, at around 5:50 p.m. after learning of the shooting and arrived to find a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,
