Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has issued a statement following news that International Paper would shut down its mills in Savannah and Riceboro, impacting 1,100 jobs.
The Savannah and Riceboro closures came as part of a series of "strategic changes to achieve an advantaged cost position," the press release said.
Chatham County Chairman Chester Ellis says he'll meet Monday with International Paper to "take care of those 1,100 employees."
