The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia has filed a lawsuit to halt the deployment of the West Virginia National Guard to the streets of Washington, D.C.

Members of the West Virginia National Guard arrived in D.C. on orders from Gov. Patrick Morrisey to support President Donald Trump's "Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force."

The Republican governors of West Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio, Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee announced they will send National Guard troops to Washington, DC, in an escalation of President Donald Trump’s efforts to federally take over law enforcement in the city.

President Donald Trump’s administration is pushing back on criticism that the surge of law enforcement and National Guard troops to Washington has focused on low-crime areas of the nation’s capital or resulted in a significant uptick in arrests.
