With the brothers and wife of late owner Peter Seidler fighting for control of the team, the Padres have had a rather quiet offseason, adding outfielders Jason Heyward and Connor Joe.

Manny Machado frequently leans on the baseball mantra about how no player is “100%” after the first day of spring training. But he truly hasn’t been that in a couple years. He injured his elbow early in 2023 and had surgery that October.

The stoppage tinkered with the momentum and repositioned the mojo. Heyward, who had struggled in the series, decided to gift his team the time to think and regroup.
