Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced a new partnership between the Florida Highway Patrol and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to enhance immigration enforcement within the state.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and the leaders of the Republican-led Legislature haven’t come to a consensus on the immigration bill passed last week. In the meantime, the governor announced on Friday an agreement with the federal government that he said would deputize Florida Highway Patrol troopers,

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is taking a bigger role in immigration enforcement efforts around the state. Over the weekend, troopers helped federal agents in Fort Myers. Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state signed an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security for troopers to begin enforcing immigration law.
