French composer duo Clément Ducol and Camille took home the original song award at the Oscars on Sunday for their track, “El Mal.” In January, “El Mal” earned the pair a Golden Globe in the same category.

For a documentary about his life, John, 77, cowrote new tune “Never Too Late” with Brandi Carlile, Bernie Taupin and Watt. The English superstar is no stranger to the Academy, earning two previous best original song Oscars for The Lion King ’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and Rocketman ’s " (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again.”

Emilia Pérez was already the villain of the 2025 Oscars, but songwriter and French singer Camille Dalmais didn’t help her film’s reputation when she started singing, unprompted, during her acceptance speech for Best Original Song.

In the end, Emilia Pérez won only two Oscars, potentially resulting from the backlash against the film after the discovery of some offensive tweets by Gascón that were posted in 2020 and 2021.
