The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced Saturday that N.C. Highway 12 on Hatteras Island is safe for travel after 12 p.m.
Two days after Hurricane Erin arrived on the NC coast in the Atlantic, state officials are beginning to reopen roads closed from the storm’s flooding. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation,
Local officials issued evacuation orders for parts of the Outer Banks, warning that the storm might wash out roads.
