A Ukrainian drone struck a Russian industrial plant some 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) from Ukraine, a local official said on Tuesday, after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy prioritized the weapon’s development and Russia pounded its pro-West neighbor with a record number of drones in June.

Russia ramped up drone attacks on Ukraine dramatically in June, an AFP analysis published Tuesday showed, pressuring the war-torn country's stretched air defence systems and exhausted civilian population.

The overnight attack was one of the largest on Ukraine and included strikes in the western part of the country, which is hit less often.
