The feud reignited on Monday when Musk, who spent hundreds of millions on Trump's re-election, renewed his criticism of Trump's tax-cut and spending bill, which would eliminate subsidies for electric vehicle purchases that have benefited Tesla, the leading U.S. EV maker. That bill passed the Senate by a narrow margin midday Tuesday.

Trump, making his first comments on Musk’s criticism of his bill during an Oval Office press conference, insinuated the Tesla CEO opposes his “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” because he is “upset” the electric vehicle tax credit was removed, adding he’s not sure he’ll remain friends with Musk and alleging Musk “knew the inner workings of the bill.”

And Musk seemingly can’t let that go. “Physics sees through all lies perfectly,” Musk posted this week on his social-media platform X. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s political power in Washington—which just a few months ago seemed limitless —was always about proximity to the president.
