After U.S. President Donald Trump met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska, several German politicians said they believe Putin emerged as the winner of the summit, DW reported on Aug. 16.

More than 150 years ago, the Russian Empire sold Alaska out of fear it might lose the territory in a future war with Great Britain. The buyer was the United States.
