City of Hope Orange County Cancer Specialty Hospital in Irvine, Calif., is set to open before the end of the year, according to The Orange County Register.

The 205,000-square-foot hospital expands the existing HCA Florida North Florida Hospital with 60 medical/surgical beds and 30 inpatient rehabilitation beds.

The project will include a 3-story acute care building with an ED, short-stay unit, medical imaging, and inpatient unit.

SmithGroup (Ann Arbor, Mich.) has appointed Vince Avallone to director of medical planning, a newly established role within the firm’s health leadership team, according to a news release.

The final vertical steel support beam was placed for the 5-story tower that will house 120 patient rooms and expanded cardiovascular and neurologic services.

The 400,000-square-foot project, expected to be completed in 2026, is a partnership with Mercy Springfield Communities.

The 450,000-square-foot campus addition includes an 8-story clinical building, 2-story cancer center, and biomass energy plant.

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (Sarasota, Fla.) has started construction on a new full-service hospital on a 32-acre site, in North Port, Fla., according to a news release.

Plans include an 8-story hospital tower housing 272 private patient rooms, a full-service ED, ICUs, advanced ORs, and a NICU.

Sanford Health (Sioux Falls, S.D.) announced plans to build Sanford Black Hills Medical Center in Rapid City, S.D., according to southdakotasearchlight.com.
