AS Gov. Gavin Newsom roamed Capitol Hill urging lawmakers to provide more aid to Southern California wildfire victims, congressional Republicans held a hearing Thursday where they insisted California Democrats, including Newsom, shouldered much of the blame for the devastating blazes.

California Governor Gavin Newsom urged President Donald Trump on Wednesday to support federal disaster relief for his state after devastating wildfires destroyed entire neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

It's been more than three weeks since the beginning of the Los Angeles area wildfires and the level of devastation is overwhelming. The numbers are stark: The fires killed 28 people and incinerated more than 16,000 structures. Officials peg the economic damage at $150 billion or more, with insurance companies expecting losses of $30 billion.

California utility company Southern California Edison on Thursday said its equipment “may be associated with” the ignition of the Hurst Fire, which burned alongside the Eaton and Palisades fires during January’s Los Angeles firestorms.

Southern California Edison (SCE), a subsidiary of Edison International, said on Thursday that it was probing whether its equipment was associated with the ignition of two Los Angeles-area wildfires this year.
