Volkswagen is accelerating its focus on affordable electric vehicles. The company revealed a bold strategy to expand access to e-mobility, with a new entry-level model priced around €20,000.
Why Volkswagen is promising an electric car for just €20,000
Volkswagen, more than most, is acutely aware it needs an electric “people’s car” – a cheap EV for the masses. It is now two years from producing one, and it will cost €20,000 (in Germany anyway – we don’t know about Ireland).
Volkswagen’s Affordable Electric Car Teased
Volkswagen releases teaser of its upcoming affordable entry-level EV. Volkswagen plans to get the show car ready by the beginning of March. The world premiere of the production-spec is scheduled for 2027.
VW’s circa-£17k ‘entry-level electric car’ due in 2027
To clarify, this electric model is separate from the ID.2, which is still scheduled to hot production either towards the very end of 2025 or early 2026; that model will be based off the ID.2all concept car. Volkswagen says it plans on launching nine new car models between now and 2027, including this entry-level EV and the ID.2.
