The Pitt is nominated for best drama, joining a very short list of medical shows that have reached this category. ER and Marcus Welby, MD, remain the only winners. Wyle is competing as lead actor, while Katherine LaNasa is nominated for supporting actress. Together, the cast and the series represent a strong presence at this year’s event.
"The focus was always on the mental health of the people that are in these jobs," Pitt star Noah Wyle told the audience at the HBO Max Emmy Nominee Celebration on Sunday. "That was the thesis of Season 1: to say that the fragility of our [health-care] system is commensurate with the fragility of the practitioners — and that if we support them and respect them,
Shawn Hatosy admits to finding Noah Wyle “annoyingly articulate” when it comes to expressing his passion about The Pitt. He also can’t imagine doing HBO Max drama without the former ER actor. Speaking at the recent Contenders at HBO Max event,
HBO Max finally drops the much-awaited teaser of The Pitt Season 2 as Noah Wyle gears up for another round of intense ER chronicles.
Noah Wyle revealed that he was inspired to create The Pitt — alongside executive producers John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill, who also worked on ER — after witnessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the American healthcare system.
Since the HBO Max medical drama The Pitt premiered in early 2025, fans have been wondering if more ER alums will film for the series.
The character has clearly made an impact, as Hatosy himself earned a very well-deserved Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. However, in a recent interview, Hatosy made it clear that he's not letting a nomination for television's most prestigious honor get to his head: “I’m still going to fight for the things that I want,
Trophies mean less to me at this stage in my life but the recognition for my work at this stage in my life means more to me than it did when I was in my early 20s.'
For example, Katherine LaNasa, who stars as Dana Evans on The Pitt, guest-starred in a Season 9 episode of ER. Shawn Hatosy, who plays Dr. Jack Abbot, popped up in ER Season 13, as did Michael Hyatt, who plays Gloria. And Tracy Vilar, who recurs on The Pitt as Lupe Perez, recurring in ER ’s fourth season.
Production for 'The Pitt' Season 2 is in full swing, and Noah Wyle is following suit with Shawn Hatosy in one key creative role.
I knew I would have access to the original footage of ER so I could do scenes with Noah as Dr. John Carter and flash back to him as John Carter as a med student,” the creator tells THR.
