Apollonia, best known as a singer-actor-model and Prince protege who co-starred in the 1984 film “Purple Rain,” has taken the late singer’s estate to court over its attempts to cancel her trademarks and claim ownership over the stage name.

More than 40 years ago, Apollonia Kotero met Prince when she auditioned to play his love interest in 1984’s Purple Rain. She landed the part, and he named the character in the semi-autobiographical musical film after her.

The Star Tribune's Jon Bream reports that Patricia Kotera, who we've known as Appolonia since her co-starring role with Prince in 1984's "Purple Rain," says it's hers. Kotera says she trademarked the name in 2016 and again in 2018.
