I never had the chance to investigate Eastern State- but a daytime walkthrough is still super cool! The Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was a prison first opened in 1829. This prison is considered the first true penitentiary, with seven corridors in a radial design capable of holding 500 inmates in isolation. They believed in something known as the “Pennsylvania system” which supported separate confinement as their means of rehabilitation. There are also various religiou
