Mount Vernon is the city in Skagit County, Washington, located between Seattle and the Canadian border, known for its historic downtown, riverfront, and proximity to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in the spring. In Mount Vernon, Washington, Memorial Highway is the local name for State Route 536. The highway runs east-west, starting from an intersection with SR 20, passing through farmlands and downtown Mount Vernon via the Skagit River on a swing bridge, and ending at an interchange with I-5.

Battalion 6 consists of FS09 (Mount Vernon), FS11 (Penn Daw), FS24 (Woodlawn), and FS37 (Kingstowne). The area borders the Potomac River, the City of Alexandria, and Fort Belvoir. The battalion is densely populated and diverse with many different types of housing. It is also home to important structures in American history, including Mount Vernon, Woodlawn Plantation, and George Washington’s Gristmill.
