Have you heard of a countertenor before? • A countertenor is a male singer who sings the high soprano or alto notes, often heard in baroque and classical opera. This unique vocal style dates back to the 1600s when women weren’t allowed to sing in church, so men trained to sing in falsetto to play female roles in liturgical dramas. • Today, countertenors like @johnholidaylive and @patrickdaileyct are celebrated for their incredible vocal range and powerful performances. Whether in Baroque operas

David Hansen is a countertenor, which means he sings opera in an impressively high register of the male voice. In the past, the roles he performs would have been sung by 'castrati', these days it requires a lot of training and technique. | ABC Classic

Light, pure and ethereal 🎶 A countertenor sings above the typical male range, often matching that of a mezzo-soprano or contralto. Known for their clarity and agility, their sound is especially associated with the vocal style of Baroque opera.
