Navaratri Day 1 - Shailaputri Each day of Navaratri is dedicated to a different form of Durga. Each day you meditate upon the form of Durga for the day. The first day is for Shailaputri. Shailaputri means the daughter of the mountain.. She is Devi of the root or Mooladhara chakra, who, upon awakening, begins her journey upwards. She rides a bull, carries a trishul in her hand and is adorned with a crescent moon on her head. Astrologically, praying to her is supposed to alleviate any malefic effe

The first day of Navratri, marks the arrival of the Goddess. ‘Mata Shailputri’ is worshipped on this day who is also referred to as Hemavati and Parvati. It is said that after she set herself on fire, Goddess Sati was born to King Himalaya as Shailputri.
