The Wagner tuba, commissioned by and named after Richard Wagner, made its first appearance in symphonic music in Anton Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony in 1884. This distinctive, four-valve brass instrument is a hybrid of the standard tuba and French horn. Principal Horn Jennifer Montone and Associate Principal Horn Jeffrey Lang gave us a demonstration of how they work and explained what makes them so special!
